How often is it that family won't give blessing to their daughter to marry a non-Albanian?

Mirëdita!

Hello guys from a half Croat half Albanian with roots in Prizren and Shkodër and sorry in advance for not speaking Shqip - my family never taught me because all the older members have passed away…

Basically, why I am asking this question is because my cousin who is a fully Croat (from Janjevë, Kosova) dated Albanian girl from the same village and same faith but she was forced to break up with him because her parents didn’t want to give their blessing to marry him. They had to cancel everything until she settles the situation and basically, her father doesn’t want her to marry a non-Albanian…

Is this a regular thing or just an isolated case? I know that most people look for a spouse of their own nationality, but this is kinda sad and poor guy doesn’t know what to do. He even started learning Albanian for her…

Thank you in advance for your responses, please don’t get me wrong, I just can’t help him and love both him and his girl, they are a beautiful couple and traditions of Kosovo Croats are absolutely identical to Albanian ones, especially when it comes to weddings - but I understand that it’s hard for her to break relations with her parents.

Thanks again and love from Croatia!
